Industrial polluters

Quick and effective clean up

Industries handling pollutants and hazardous materials encounter challenges in managing spills and clean-up efforts efficiently. Conventional methods may prove inadequate for containing and removing spills, leading to environmental contamination and regulatory violations. Particularly in sectors like Oil & Gas and PFAS production, but also army bases, airports etc, quick and effective clean-up is crucial to minimize environmental damage and prevent harm to ecosystems. Improper handling and disposal of hazardous materials can result in widespread environmental pollution, including soil and water contamination, greenhouse gas emissions, and habitat degradation.

Our impact

Pelleton’s CleanPel™ absorber pellets are designed to bind PFAS contaminated waste, water and soil contaminants – permanent organic pollutants (POPs) as well as oil spills, ready for thermal destruction.

Benefits

Test Program: Redfin Aquasciences

In collaboration with Redfin Aquasciences, Pelleton Renewables conducted extensive testing on CleanPel™ biomass pellets, examining their efficiency in managing per- and poly-fluoro alkyl substances (PFAS). The studies demonstrated that CleanPel™ pellets are highly effective in absorbing PFAS from aqueous solutions, with the capacity to retain these contaminants even after drying. During submergence tests the pellets absorbed PFAS concentrations that were several times higher than those in the surrounding solution.

Subsequent combustion tests above 1,000°C confirmed that such high temperatures could effectively eliminate PFAS, with post-incineration analyses showing no detectable PFAS in the ash samples.

These results underline the dual functionality of CleanPel™ pellets: their capability to not only capture and contain PFAS efficiently but also to destroy them upon thermal treatment. This makes them a cost-effective solution for both emergency responses to spills and routine environmental cleanup of PFAS-contaminated sites, highlighting their potential for broader environmental management applications.
